PALM SPRINGS’ RICH (AND FAMOUS) HISTORY
Palm Springs has been known for decades as a hideaway for the rich and famous. The sun and the close proximity to Hollywood have for years drawn many interesting and fabulous people. And these people have built homes and estates that are considered true architectural gems of the city!
One of the best ways to view these homes is by taking one of the amazing walking tours that are available.
The largest selection is offered by the Historical Society. Each day offers a selection of pre-scheduled tours that last about 2 hours for a cost of $25 per person. Stroll through some of the most beautiful neighborhoods of Palm Springs and take in the views and history. Reservations are always recommended, but especially during peak season. You can see a list of tours on their website.

Another great tour, sponsored by the Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center is “The Docent Guided Walking Tours – The Architects and Visionaries Who Built Palm Springs”. When offered (currently on hiatus due to COVID – however self-guided tours are offered) this tour lasts roughly 90 minutes. The price of the tour also includes admission to both the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Architecture and Design Center.

If you are more interested in interiors, then “The Modern Tour” is definitely a must-do! This is a 2 ½ hour tour of several of the homes once owned by some of the most famous names around – Frank Sinatra, William Holden, Elvis Presley, and Elizabeth Taylor to name a few. This once-in-a-lifetime tour is offered at a cost of $200 per person and is something you will not regret!
